Kelpinor Suspension Boosts Cucumber Growth and Stress Tolerance; New student research from TU Braunschweig

August 13, 2025

A recent study conducted by the Institute of Plant Biology at TU Braunschweig highlights the promising effects of Kelpinor Suspension Ascophyllum, our natural seaweed-based biostimulant, on Cucumis sativus (cucumber) seedlings.

Key findings include:

  • Stronger growth and vitality: Treated plants showed significantly longer stems and roots, more lateral root development, greener leaves, and delayed cotyledon senescence.
  • Improved physiological performance: Photosynthetic efficiency (Fv/Fm) was significantly higher, and plants maintained better water status under stress.
  • Gibberellin pathway activation: A marked increase in GA24, a key gibberellin precursor, suggests a targeted influence on plant hormone metabolism related to growth and biomass.

These phenotypic observations closely align with the results from our in-house trials. The significant changes observed in maximum quantum efficiency and GA levels (both of which we had hypothesised to respond to our treatments) are especially promising. We now await validation of these findings from the researchers, and the results so far further strengthen our motivation to continue advancing research on our Ascophyllum formulation as well as other products currently in development.
